The Commonwealth of Massachusetts does have strict gun control laws. We also have one of the lowest gun death rates in the country: Firearms Death Rate per 100,000 http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000 How many times higher is the gun death rate in your state? My understanding also is that the gun ownership rate is pretty low in Massachusetts compared to other parts on the country. Many of the gun deaths in Massachusetts are concentrated in a handful of Zip codes in the Southwest part of Boston. It's mostly poor kids shooting other poor kids. The taxi driver I was talking with solved his gun violence problem by moving out this area. Her son, the taxi driver, said she was mistaken. He also said that Nigeria isn't as dangerous as most Americans assume from the news. However, another taxi driver here in Boston was telling me that he was so freaked out by the random gun violence in the Roxbury section of Boston that he almost went back to Somilia. I've talked to a number of foreigners who assumed before they arrived here that the U.S. is like the Wild West with everyone carrying guns on the street. They get this impressions from the news, TV shows, movies, etc.... and from some Americans on this list. One of them bragged that he even wore his gun to a wedding. One taxi driver told me that his mother begged him to stay in Nigeria because America was such a dangerous place. ;-)Was she mistaken?_______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
