Pierre is far too modest to say this, but IDA is, first and foremost, 
_THE_ kick-ass disassembler.  It has all but demolished the disasm 
market due to its feature set and execllent implementation.

The debugging functionality has only been added relatively recently and 
although useful, is mainly not why hardcore reverse engineers use it.
