Thanks to those who have pointed out that Napster has both "push" and "pull" technology(!) inside it to get around those pesky firewalls. What my plan had been was to allow people "on the inside" to fetch things using napster but prevent outsiders from being able to retrieve files. Short of disabling sharing in all the napster clients, this doesn't appear to be possible? A napster proxy might also do the trick, if there were documentation on the protocol...
