Is there any REAL reason that you need a firewall appliance at home? If you really need a dedicated firewall system, and money is an option, then check out SmoothWall: http://www.smoothwall.org/about/screenshots/ Grab a junk machine, bump up the memory and maybe the processor, install this and you're off to the races. -----Original Message----- From: listbounce () securityfocus com [mailto:listbounce () securityfocus com] On Behalf Of Emilio Morla Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 11:46 AM To: Paul.Simons () thomsonreuters com; security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: RE: Best firewall applience Look into astaro virtual appliances. I am currently allowed to use 5 'nodes' accessing the internet at the same time and I have a URL filtering subscription along with the usual software/hardware support. With Father Christmas being particularly fond of devices that require an IP address (iPods - Xboxes - etc) I need to upgrade from 5 to 25 nodes. In total I am going to have to pay around 900 US dollars!!! What are my alternatives? I have looked at Sonicwall, Sofaware, etc. Any recommendations? other solutions to keep my home network and kids safe? Thanks in advance.
