Hi,

All i understand of VLANs is encryption of packets at source and
decryption at destination.

VLANs have nothing to do with encryption.

You could look at VLANs as a means to divide a single switch into several.
Say, you have an accoutning department and a sales department and want
to have them on different LANs. Then you could either build two LANs
or put each department into a different VLAN.

Fun thing is, that you can have switches work together to use the same VLANs.

VLANs are strictly Layer 2. The way they work is pretty simple. Each
Ethernet Frame is put into another frame, which has the VLAN Tag in
front.
