Do some serious penetration testing on your network.  Find security
holes that you didn't know existed, research them and related exploits
and then learn how to fix them.

go read RFCs on PKI and key exchange. then work some random company
into letting you into their building/network, write a detailed white
paper about it and send it to their CIO
