Re: Any update about Snort and any alternative solution

As of now, Check Point's official stance is that all existing Check
Point and Sourcefire products will be supported after the acquisition
is complete, including Snort. They also have stated that they "remain
committed to the open-source community". They have not told us
employees anything different and it is very unlikely that any
information regarding any actions will be released prior to the
closure of the deal in Q1 2006. The company website that will
distribute all information regarding the acquisition is at
www.checkpoint.com/sourcefire.

I should point out that after our Zone Labs purchase, we did keep the
free version of ZoneAlarm updated and available so there is some
precedent to reinforce the earlier statements.

Hello All,

Do you have any news or update on the future of Snort? Checkpoint has
purchased Sourcefire, do you have any news whether they will discontinue the
support of snort?

Check out the link which is a message from Marty Roesch. The 2nd
paragraph addresses your question. Although I will point out that being
Open Source, Snort is supported not only by Sourcefire but by the
community as a whole.

Other than that, is there any other alternative on Network IDS? Is there any
other available version of Snort with signature update?

Please advise.
