Any update about Snort and any alternative solution

Hello All,

Do you have any news or update on the future of Snort? Checkpoint has
purchased Sourcefire, do you have any news whether they will discontinue the
support of snort?

Other than that, is there any other alternative on Network IDS? Is there any
other available version of Snort with signature update?

Please advise.
