Yes...but this isn't DirectX, but an SDK for it. If you could just install the non-beta of DirectX itself and make everything hunky dory, ok...that would be fine. But in this case, you need the license for the release version of the SDK itself. What if you're just playing with the SDK to see if you want to pursue it further? What if you decide that it's not for you, and you go back to programming some other kind of application? Having beta software go dead after a certain time is acceptable; forcing you to purchase more software lest your machine need a total reinstall is not. Actually, all they are trying to tell you is that there is no way to uninstall a DirectX installation... and if DirectX9 is set to not function post August 20, and since you can not 'roll back' to DirectX8, your only option is to reinstall your OS.
