certain types of open errors on commodore 64 disk drives would cause the
drive to spin endlessly. unattended and without a fan, this would
eventually overheat the drive and push it out of alignment. the drive
could be repaired, but it was still a pain. saw a lot of bbs systems go
offline (temporarily) because of this. as always, it was the direct result
of poorly coded software.
