I quickly tried out Base....anticipating a greater search year then 2004,
but alas, that restriction is still in place =(  Any idea when this will be
updated?

The 'base' home page states:

  BASE is the Basic Analysis and Security Engine. It is based on the
  code from the Analysis Console for Intrusion Databases (ACID) project.

Could someone comment on what has been added over standard 'acid'?

Is 'base' "better" than 'acid'?  ;-)
