Are you sure it's Snort that is causing the memory leak and not WinPCap (Task Manager will not delineate the memory used by snort.exe alone vs snort.exe wpcap.dll)? As you may or may not know, WinPCap does not officially support SMP platforms (see http://winpcap.polito.it/misc/faq.htm#Q-15), so it's very possible that WinPCap is the culprit, and Snort 2.0 will not solve your problems. We are running Snort on a SMP Win2k Advanced Server box and notice in processes that after a week the amount of RAM Snort is using is close to 50MB. We have shut the program down and restarted it and it usually starts at about 9MB. The box is running dual PIII 600MHZ, 512MB, Adaptec RAID 5 array on a SuperMicro mainboard. Just an FYI. We are really looking forward to 2.0. David Wilkinson Adalis Companies, Inc 525 Del Rey Ave Suite H Sunnyvale, CA 94085-3515 408-617-0230 408-617-0011 FAX --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
