acid on RH7.2

I've put this message off realizing that this is an elementary issue, but I 
confess to being stumped.  I have an updated but otherwise default RH7.2 
system.  Apache has php support and php has MySQL support.  At least that's 
how it appears.  I'd like to know, however, if anyone has seen problems with 
the way RedHat builds their MySQL php support (seems to be modular rather 
than monolithic).  So, here's the error I'm getting:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in 
$WEB_ROOT/acid/acid_db_common.php on line 17

I've added this to acid_conf.php:
$DBlib_path     = "$WEB_ROOT/adodb/";
$DBtype         = "mysql";

and this to adodb.inc.php:
$ADODB_DIR="$WEB_ROOT/adodb"

Still no luck.  The database is running fine and getting populated by snort.  
I just can't get acid to show me anything.  Any help, particularly anyone who 
has gotten acid up on a RH7.2 system, is greatly appreciated.
