Hi Elizabeth,

The OSSTMM (osstmm.org) is a methodology for doing the kinds of tests you are talking about whether they are physical, wireless, social engineering, or over networks. Also, more and more colleges and universities are using the ISECOM certifications to give practical security know-how as well as an indicator of their efficiency and accuracy. Of the certifications, Security Tester and Security Analyst may fit what you are looking for. You can get details at www.isecom.org.

Sincerely,
-pete.
