Hey Pierre, What also might work is to propose a contract where it is stipulated that you will refund a part of the cost should you leave the company within a given time frame (e.g. 100% if you leave within a year, 50% for 2 years etc.), this way management is sure the investment (training should always be sold to management as investment) will pay off or be paid back ... greets
A slight variation that I used with a company where they didn't think security was important was that I paid for the course but then whenever they wanted me to do anything related to what I'd learnt on the course they paid me a "bonus" for that work. For them they had no initial outlay and if they were right they didn't have to pay anything, for me, I knew that they would use me and it meant I wasn't tied in. I also got local grant funding for the training but didn't tell them that so we negotiated rates based on full course price. Robin

I really wanted to do the course and so I made them an offer, It worked for me. The only issue now is that I have to convince upper management that it is worth it to pay for me to go to the training. The class I am taking is SEC506 Securing Unix/Linux and considering our environment is 97% Linux it should be a no brainer. But I was wondering if anyone could help provided me with some bullet points I can use in my write up to help convince upper management to pay for the course. The company I work for is a contacting company mostly to the Federal Government with some Private Industry so anything related to the Federal Government would be great.
