Thanks Carlos. /me wonders why they didn't go with any Nexus' and which
version of the HW they had. The international version is different than
the US, I believe, CPU wise, but not radio wise...(?)

Have several friends that switched from it to the LG Optimus because they
kept having problems with the HW

I'm thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy S4, Android version that Google
recently announced. Do these apps require root or just Vanilla Android?

I agree w/Larry -- Check out WiFi Analyzer for Android.

Brian,

We talk about this quite a bit in SANS SEC617. I hate to say it, but I
think you are correct on the iPhone side, mostly due to the fact that
the wireless drivers are "less than open". To my knowledge, monitor mode
support does not exist on non-jailbroken iDevices (I'm not sure about
jailbroken ones).

My solution? Go Android. I picked up a Nexus 7 and use the following
tools frequently:

Kisbee - Zigbee sniffer (for use with 3rd party hardware)
Pcap Capture - Monitor mode WiFi capture with a specific ALFA wireless
card and OTG cable
WiFiFoFum - Rogue AP locator
WiFi Analyzer - Kismet-like wireless discovery
WiGLE WiFi Wardriving - Kismet-like wireless discovery
Cloudshark - Cloud based wireshark for analyzing pcaps

Hope that helps.

I am curious if anyone has found any good apps for mobile devices for
wifi testing? I have been told that all of the iPhone apps don't detect
networks with hidden SSIDs; has anyone found any contrary evidence? I am
looking for a simple solution, not a dedicated device.

Have a great day,

Brian
