Using SAMBA with Active Directory

So I had a customer ask me a question that I could not answer, so I'm deferring to the experts :-) Can SAMBA be used with Active Directory IF (and here's the fun part) the reversible encryption group polices are configured such that only NTLM hashing is in use on the network?
