Specialise to survive?

I am just catching up with my PDC email. In our profession, once you are called in for your "expert" opinion it does usually touch other domains. Most of the companies these days pretty much hire you for some specific skill you have or interested in. The rest of it is on the job training. You may be a great programmer in xyz language, but then you have to learn about databases, network related issues with your programming, security issues....and on. These are all on the job training. You should be flexible enough to learn these new technologies. That's my .02 cents/euros or whatever. Regards, Subba Rao Robert Portvliet wrote:
Thanks Mick, I've spent over 7 years working in a niche market (OpenView CM engineering & administration), I sort of fell into it & although it has always paid the bills I'm more than ready for a new challenge & really fascinated by all things infosec. <SNIP>
