Adrian, Thanks for taking the time to put these presentations together and for especially recording them and making them available. I know I always learn something new from them (I watch them even through I don't get CPEs by watching them!). Sorry that not everything worked out as planed. It never does. I too have seen my share of people at trainings/seminars that appear to be there just to collect the CPEs. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil and unavoidable (not just in security but any industry/certification that require ongoing CPEs). They will always be there. Just remember that there are many of us out there who show up to these trainings and seminars not just to collect the CPEs (it's a great bonus when they are available too!) but because we are genuinely interested in learning about the topic at hand. Thanks! _____ From: pauldotcom-bounces at mail.pauldotcom.com [mailto:pauldotcom-bounces at mail.pauldotcom.com] On Behalf Of Adrian Crenshaw Sent: Sunday, May 24, 2009 7:21 PM To: PaulDotCom Security Weekly Mailing List Subject: [Pauldotcom] 802.11 Wireless Security Class for the Louisville ISSAPart 1 Well, I ran the class Saturday, unfortunately things di not go as smoothly as I would have liked. Originally, this was going to be one 4hr class, but Jeff had something come up so he could not cover WEP/WPA cracking, and my section took so long that Brian never got a chance to present his material on DD-WRT. I'm hoping to get them back to do a part 2 of this video. In this section I cover the basics of WiFi, good chipsets, open file shares, monitor mode, war driving tools, testing injection, deauth attacks and the evil twin attack. Some of this comes out as kind of a stream of consciousness, but hopefully you can find some useful nuggets from my brain dump of what I've learned about 802.11a/b/g/n hacking. As far as classes goes this is the mostly complicated one I've set up. http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=videos/802-11-wireless-security-class-par t-1 Things I've learned by trying to teach this class: 1. Wireless classes take lots of wires. Brian and I had to run a lot of cables to get all of our routers, video equipment and laptops functioning. 2. I have no idea how long it will take me to demo something live. 3. The Jeffersonville library needs more APs. 4. Lots of folks will show up for CPE, but may not really be interested in the subject. 5. Don't chew gum while teaching. 6. My VGA to S-Video adapter needs some adjusting so it does not crop the sides.
