Thanks for the report.  The issue may be related to the coincidence
that your svn client chose the username 'root' (since you were logged
in as root) and we also happened to have a user 'root' on that svn
server (it was used for storing various config/administration files).
I have renamed our user 'root', so hopefully this won't happen any
more.

I just experienced the same problem again this morning. My username is 'miller', though, so that shouldn't be the issue.

I'm not sure whether this is the issue. For one, when I check out a new, fresh copy of the repository the SVN update will work through a couple of trees, then fail, asking for a login. Does not SVN store the default username for the repository in the .svn structure? (pardon, I've forgotten as I have moved on to GIT a long time ago). It seems it does for the root .svn but some of the others it does not.

For the record, what is the default username for the repo? Fyodor, you said you changed something with the username root. But it still has the same symptoms on my end.
