hi ! it could be used to keep down the traffic by just moving the information from each scanned segment to the central scanner, if you have one scanner per segment - in this case you might experience a speed increase and less router load. also, you might use this to get different pictures from your target network, relative to the point from where you scan. you could combine this to a larger map and check where the maps show differences to find weaknesses in secondary entrance filter-rules. you could also use it to scan segments faster if you don´t care about traffic and network saturation and use multiple interfaces/hosts on one/multiple segments if you want data really fast. this would require some work to function well, though. greets, ripclaw Lorell Hathcock wrote:
Greetings! I understand that in version 2.0 of nmap, nmap will run parallel processes or scans simultaneously. Has anyone done any work with a nmap scan from a distributed set of servers? What are the pros and cons of such an approach? It seems like a few of the pros would be a faster scan is possible of larger networks. Also, it seems a scan could be done more "stealthily" if a broad set of servers were brought to bear on it. It would look like a decoy attack when in fact it wasn't. Some of the cons are that it could be difficult to distribute commands to each of the member servers and to recombine the results of the scan. Any thoughts? Thanks!
