Hi,

My apologies to all..

I troubleshooted the cause and it was my mistake. Last week, i removed
the ruby package and installed latest version(which was interrupted
and incomplete). I forgot that issue and tried running metasploit with
that incomplete installation of ruby. Now I reverted back to my old
configurations and updated metasploit to rev 5850. Things are working
fine now.

The Ruby version in BT3 should be solid, suprising that you had that
problem there. SVN up to the latest MSF code and it should do a smarter
check for the bug on start.

I am using Backtrack 3 based on slackware distribution. The version of
ruby is 1.8.6(2008-8-11 patchlevel 287). I am downloading the latest
stable snapshot of ruby [1.8.7] from ruby-lang and will get back to
you with the results.
