Your version of Ruby is broken (1.8.7, or 1.8.6 with the bug backported). 
What distribution are you using? To solve this problem, you should 
upgrade to the latest "stable snapshot" available for download at 
http://www.ruby-lang.org/. We are working with the Ubuntu folks to have 
their package fixed, but I believe Gentoo and Fedora are shipping broken 
versions as well.
