Re New York Times defends hiring extreme climate denier: 'millions agree with him' To: <dave () farber net>, ip <ip () listbox com> I believe there is data supporting both sides of this issue ... For example, here's a graph showing CO2 versus temperature over the last 4 billion years that appears to show little if any correlation between the two: [image: http://www.biocab.org/Geological_Timescale_op_712x534.jpg] Given the difficulties involved in accurately distilling the worlds varying regions into a single global temperature, as well as measuring the minute amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere *over **millions **of years*, a little skepticism on both sides of this issue would seem prudent. Re New York Times defends hiring extreme climate denier: 'millions agree with him' To: Dave Farber <dave () farber net> Dave A few times a century, something important is demonstrated that 99.9% of scientists believed impossible. (Ramanujan.) I doubt climate will be an example, but thinking so should not by itself make someone a pariah, especially if they do exemplary other work. Climate change deniers, of course, have very little data on their side. The same is true of any religion, including my own. I don't think the New York Times should automatically exclude someone because he believes in a scientifically unprovable religion, whether Judaism or Wahabi Islam. Most of us have at least one belief with less evidence than his. That's not enough to make everything else we write a mistake. To put that in real terms, from .04% of the atmosphere, to .05%. No doubt the climate is changing, but a little skepticism about the cause being CO2 is warranted. -- Sent from my Android device with K-9 Mail. Please excuse my brevity. Think you missed a decimal or something. However, there are more than 1.5 million climate change deniers in the US alone. -- TTFN, patrick
