Subject: New airline security rules now slightly less crazy

For IP if you'd like.

The New York Times is reporting that some of the crazy new rules governing flights to the US have been relaxed slightly:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/29/us/29security.html

In particular, the Times reports that the rules no longer require airlines to turn off live TV and flight tracking from their in- flight entertainment systems. Also, the "no-getting-up-during-the- last-hour" rule has been made more general (and vague), directing airlines to ensure that passengers remain seated when ordered to do so by the crews. It's unclear whether the "no-blankets-or-reading- material" part of that rule has been scaled back as well.
