ACLU involvement would be nice, but what about individuals?

I live in the Washington DC area. Yesterday, as soon as I got the WMATA (DC Metro) press release on the inspections, I GOT ON THE PHONE and called the Metro Transit Police chief's office to protest this program. Chief Michael Taborn was in a meeting; I spoke to Deputy Chief Jeff Delinski. The number's 202-962-2150.

Others should call too. Tell them you view this type of protection as security hype that will be useless in protecting the transportation system, that will only cause delays and alienate the public. Let's not take this silliness passively.

Please post to IP if you wish.

Where is the ACLU? Starved for cash and utterly reliant on pro bono legal help.

Refusing to give them money because they don't have enough money to cure every one of the myriad evils of the present day is the very definition of self-defeating. See "Vicious Cycle" for details.

Where is the ACLU on this issue?
From time to time I get asked why I don't give money to the ACLU. For 3 years now I've been pointing at the NYC Subway's random search program and asking why the ACLU isn't fighting a blatant 4th amendment violator. I've been pointing at other government programs and initiatives enacted since 2001, and asking where the ACLU has been on those, as well. From what I can see, the only thing the ACLU has done in the last 8 years is write amicus briefs. Who is willing to stand up and fight these abuses to the Supreme Court, where this issue belongs? Not giving up because the district judge rules against you, like the NYCLU did.
