Richard Forno wrote, and David Farber forwarded:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Suffer from springtime allergies? You could be among the
first affected by the USA Patriot Act poised for final congressional passage
this week.

Besides terrorism, the bill takes aim at the production of methamphetamine,
a highly addictive drug that cannot be manufactured without a key ingredient
of everyday cold and allergy medicines. The bill would impose new limits
next month for how much relief a person can buy over the counter.

It's not just meth. I wrote about this and more in a column in December:

What do mandatory drug testing, cigarette taxes and methamphetamine
restrictions have to do with protecting America from terrorists?
As far as I can tell, the answer is "nothing." But they nevertheless
appear in a 219-page proposed law to renew the Patriot Act that
Republicans have scheduled for a vote this week.
