The trial over the Children's Internet Protect Act begins tomorrow in
Philadelphia, where a coalition including the American Civil
Liberties Union, People For the American Way, and several libraries,
will ask the courts to overturn the law requiring libraries to
install blocking software or lose federal funding.

The Children's Internet Protection Act, despite the name, also
applies when adults are using library computers, although the
requirements for what the software has to block are less stringent
when adults are using the computers. ("Obscenity" and "child
pornography" have to be blocked for adults; these plus material
considered "harmful to minors" has to be blocked for users under 18.)

The expert reports being used by witnesses testifying against the
law, include much of the material cited on the Peacefire.org site.
It's been gratifying over the years to have respected lobbying
organizations and public policy groups come to us for information,
