Vista *is* a lot more secure than XP. Win7 is not a lot more secure than Vista. If she had been running Vista and had been standard user she wouldn't be in this predicament. Vista users don't get anywhere near as much malware as XP users, and I'm sure that almost all who get it succumb to a social engineering attack to lower their defenses. But you're right, you can avoid malware by using an unpopular platform for which it largely isn't written.
