We just may have happened to have obtained your permission without you realizing it. The setting is in this intuitive, easy-to-find place:
And to my point about information hygiene, when you go to that page it now has a popup that you have to click that reads: "Worried about privacy? Your photos are safe. There have been misleading rumors recently about the use of your photos in ads. Don't believe them. These rumors were related to third-party applications, and not ads shown by Facebook. Get the whole story at the Facebook Blog, or check out the Help Center." That NYT article sums up Wastebook's position and it sounds pretty reasonable given their situation: "It takes down offending ads and has even kicked two ad networks off its site. Facebook says it prohibits ads within apps that cause a bad user experience, are misleading or otherwise violate its policies. And it requires developers to get permission from any users before using their photo in an ad." FB users want the relatively permissive environment that enables them to do what they go there for, and FB takes reasonable measures to protect the mediocre level of privacy FB users expect. Anyone who is seriously privacy-philic shouldn't be on FB at all. -chris _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
