I've never really understood this American concept of "flip flopping". I
often change my mind about things, that's the only rational way to behave.

In most cases its to do with showing "backbone". Each case has to be
viewed individually, however, within its own context.
 
Backbone is good, but persistence in the face of demonstrable wrongness is 
bad. And when the situation changes, chaning your plan isn't always a bad 
idea.
