Bird flu (was: Gartner spews more junk)

Doesn't this say it all...
http://events.interwise.com/?p=500646&t=1&s=2EVUS

the "bird-flu" is a myth, a story to tell citizens of the
world that the "end is near".... Perpetrated by the media,
in all countries... Although here in the States it's
probably worse then others....

However, the U.S. Government (both Federal and state/local) is throwing
money and time at this; see <http://www.avianflu.gov/> as one such
example. In fact, instead of getting calls from vendors saying "Our
product will help you solve your compliance needs", I am now getting
"Our product will help you during a pandemic/avian flu outbreak" cold
calls.

There was a lengthy discussion of this on NANOG a while
ago - the most interesting point was "is the local DSL
provider able to handle *everybody* telecommuting at once?"

Or, better yet, how will the DSL providers support their customers when
their support/installation staff are quarantined at home? Would they
ever come to my house with a new cable modem/router if I needed one?
