Hmm..sounds familiar...


I could find more, but that's enough to illustrate that
people in positions of power misuse those powers for illegal
purposes. That is explicitly why there need to be checks and
balances to prevent any one branch of governement from steamrolling
it's will upon the other(s).

That's why we have checks and balances, but that's aside the point.
The "nature" of government is to rule - so long as the populace puts
up with it, the power it requires to rule will grow. Period. That's
the way of ALL governments EVERYWHERE since the beginning of
civilization.
