If you are already subscribed...the message when you go to that page and check that little box on the main administration
page [if I'm checking the box you mean] is this:

-----------------------------------

An attempt was made to subscribe your address to the mailing list
full-disclosure () lists grok org uk. You are already subscribed to this mailing list.

Note that the list membership is not public, so it is possible that a bad
person was trying to probe the list for its membership. This would be a
privacy violation if we let them do this, but we didn't.

If you submitted the subscription request and forgot that you were already
subscribed to the list, then you can ignore this message. If you suspect that
an attempt is being made to covertly discover whether you are a member of this
list, and you are worried about your privacy, then feel free to send a message
to the list administrator at full-disclosure-owner () lists grok org uk.

-------------------------------

Therefore, I beleive the proper answer is to get the help file commands by sending an email to full-disclosure-request () lists grok org uk with help in the subject line

Which then dumps out a email to you that says

subscribe [password] [digest|nodigest] [address=<address>]
Subscribe to this mailing list. Your password must be given to
unsubscribe or change your options, but if you omit the password, one
will be generated for you. You may be periodically reminded of your
       password.

The next argument may be either: `nodigest' or `digest' (no quotes!).
If you wish to subscribe an address other than the address you sent
this request from, you may specify `address=<address>' (no brackets
around the email address, and no quotes!)

   unsubscribe [password] [address=<address>]
Unsubscribe from the mailing list. If given, your password must match
your current password. If omitted, a confirmation email will be sent
to the unsubscribing address. If you wish to unsubscribe an address
other than the address you sent this request from, you may specify
`address=<address>' (no brackets around the email address, and no
quotes!)

you then have to send another email to the list getting your password if the list generated one for you.....

password [<oldpassword> <newpassword>] [address=<address>]
Retrieve or change your password. With no arguments, this returns
your current password. With arguments <oldpassword> and <newpassword>
       you can change your password.

Option 2 is to unsubscribe and resubscribe in digest?

But Option 3 came out of the help email that was sent to me by the program:

https://lists.grok.org.uk/mailman/options/full-disclosure/youremail%40yourdomainname ?

Once you get into THAT site, enter in a password that I retrieved [again from the help email instructions]...then you
can set it back to digest.

Sorry ... I guess I'm blonde... it "is" a bit confusing and did take a while to figure out the 'right' checkbox.

I shouldn't have to "fix" my settings for the damn list! I didn't break
them! The list should have a competent admin who does not subscribe
me to full mode when I asked for digest only! It's not only the
unauthorised junk in my inbox that is unacceptable, it's the expectation
that I should waste my time changing passwords, settings etc. for one
pissant list, else get spammed.

You are absolutely right.
It is annoying to go to the web page and click on a small box. I am not being cynical (here).

Problem is, Mailman is annoying with such changes... so instead of asking why and/or just fixing yourself in 2 seconds...
I'd sue the admins. After all, this is a service you pay good money for.
