If proxies can now distinguish which program redirects via them, I would be
interested to hear how...

Sorry, my statement was not so clear: I mean that an "hardware" firewall may
well be made of a series of application proxies, effectively allowing some
software to pass out and denying others.
Mmmmh... after reading 3APA3A's post, I'm in doubt: maybe I didn't get the
point and we're speaking about distinguishing between two clients _of the
same type_ (e.g. two browsers or two FTP clients)?
If that's the case, please excuse me. :-(
