IF    and are most "user level" ( which XP most certainly is ) installs
running services that can be directly accessed and a remote manipulation
possible?

i see IF certain conditions exist...
the issue is default state, non firewalled remotely ( lan or wan )
manipulatable access before a local login has taken place.
