The replacement for VMS 2.3 (called Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Response System (CS-MARS)) will let you manage all the current security-related products as well as monitor them from a semi-central location. This would include ASA and VPN 3000 series devices, the IDS/IPS
The replacement for VMS is CSM (Cisco Security Manager). CS-MARS is an event correlation system/centralized log manager (nee Protego). Both will use SNMP; but for different requirements. Additionally, there is some (limited) tie-in between the two systems, so that if MARS detects an attack, it can offer ACL solutions, and link to CSM to update affected platforms. MARS is also a multi-vendor solution (having been aquired by Cisco roughly 2 years ago). -- Pete Capelli pcapelli () ieee org http://www.capelli.org PGP Key ID:0x829263B6 "Those who would give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety" - Benjamin Franklin, 1759 _______________________________________________ firewall-wizards mailing list firewall-wizards () listserv icsalabs com https://listserv.icsalabs.com/mailman/listinfo/firewall-wizards
