I've been lurking on this thread for a while and haven't really had much to add. However, I'd like to take a crack. In the 20+ years that I've been doing IT work, from the Military to Government to private sector, I've seen people with Certs that didn't couldn't troubleshoot minor problems, and others that really do some good work. But, I've also seen the same from people without Certs. I guess I see it as this.. In order to have a certificate, at one time in their life a person had to be familiar enough with the material to pass a test. Whether that knowledge stays with them or not, is going to vary by the individual. Hiring Managers and upper management do place a value on certificate, that is evident by job posting that require/desire them. And cert holders do report to earn more money. I guess that's the deciding factor, if a certificate can get you an interview or earn you a few more $$$ then its probably worth it. -----Original Message----- From: firewall-wizards-admin () honor icsalabs com [mailto:firewall-wizards-admin () honor icsalabs com] On Behalf Of Paul D. There are soooo many clueless consultants out there, way more than cluefull ones...I hope the moderator will put this thread to bed, as it's degenerating
into digital racism. Once we begin blanket condemnation of any group we aren't acting much like wizards...
Sure we are, we're smiting! You can't have wizards without a good smiting or two! Me? I call for a blanket condemnation of attackers. There, I feel better now. Good thing it's Friday. Seriously, no need for anyone to get wrapped up in it, there's nothing wrong with a little give an take- it's really amusing to see otherwise rational folks defend consulting or certifications, or attack consulting or certifications based upon their status as such- now, is the status due to the belief, or the belief due to the status? That's the interesting question in these threads... Paul ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- Paul D.
