IMHO Running sendmail is not a suicide anymore.. especially when you have a
chance to set 99% of those bells&whistles through m4 :)

Having run Sendmail, SMail, and Postfix as a gateway for relatively good
sized user bases (~30,000 users), I can't stress how much easier Postfix
made my life (as well as kept me out of having to do machine upgrades due
to load.)

It may not be suicide anymore, but it's still more painful than the
top alternatives (Postfix, Qmail, Exim.)

It's no secret that I'm a Postfix fan- I like code that's well written,
defaults sanely, is modularized where approrpriate and is easy to pare
down to essentials when building systems that need to be trustworthy. The
fact that it also plays well with others and gives me lots of control over
the types of things I feel I need total control over is just an added
bonus.
