Evidently I'm really missing the boat. I've been trying to find the well-known port for ICMP. Is there no such thing?
ICMP is a protocol, like TCP or UDP. It layers on top of IP. TCP and UDP use ports; ICMP doesn't. (There can be port numbers imbedded in ICMP messages, but they're information related to the ICMP message.)
