Hi Cathy,

We’re in the process of renewing our Microsoft agreement to Microsoft 365 A3 + A5 security. Supposedly, as part of
paying for the faculty/staff A5 security licenses, we also receive student licenses for Microsoft Defender ATP, which
includes a Mac client/agent, at no additional cost. We’ll know for sure once we see what our allotment of licenses is
on July 1 when the new contract takes effect.

We’re not sure how we can offer it to the students without managing their systems in some way, which we want to avoid,
but we are investigating of possibly of that being an option if it’s easy to let students enroll and put themselves in
some sort of unmanaged state/group that’s “hands off” from IT management and control.

The last two years we’ve had students install AVG free for Mac, though with their recent privacy issues, I’m hesitant
to recommend the free version going forward. Sophos provides a good free product, but it’s a little bit of a hassle
for them to register and install from the web site. They also get a lot of nagging to upgrade to the paid version for
more features. We recommended Sophos before they started forcing registration on their web site.

Best,

Good afternoon!

Like many institutions, we are balking at the cost of the SEP renewals and starting to think about some alternatives
including no longer including students in our SEP renewal. As a result, we’ll probably recommend Windows Defender for
M$ systems, but we’d need a free option for students who use Macs. Any recommendations for a free AV product for Mac
out there? Of course if anyone has any other feedback, we’d be open to hearing it as well.

Thank you in advance.

Best,
Cathy
