Re: Free AV for Macs recommendation?

Cathy,
Though we have a paid solution here (McAfee), the Mac community in general
now sees Malwarebytes as the best free solution for macOS. It's what I run
on all my systems at home. The free version doesn't offer on-access
scanning, but it can schedule scanning runs. It's multithreaded code, so it
runs quite quickly, but you wouldn't want to run a scan when you're trying
to do any other work. It does let you know about important updates, but it
doesn't keep nagging you to buy it, at least not until you open its console.

Good afternoon!

Like many institutions, we are balking at the cost of the SEP renewals and
starting to think about some alternatives including no longer including
students in our SEP renewal. As a result, we’ll probably recommend Windows
Defender for M$ systems, but we’d need a free option for students who use
Macs. Any recommendations for a free AV product for Mac out there? Of
course if anyone has any other feedback, we’d be open to hearing it as well.

Thank you in advance.

Best,

Cathy
