Is there any reason the "dd" tool won't work for you all?

WRT flash drives, no matter what tool you use, your erase efforts will be
completely subject to the on-board controller actually erasing what you're
requesting it to erase (which it may or may not do, depending on its TRIM
or other algorithms).
