Thank you all for your responses.  We looked at Sophos but decided against it and hare having a conversation with Dell 
in a week or so.  Most of our desktops right now are purchased without TPM (would love to hear from anyone who does 
order all their desktops with TPM) so tested BitLocker on one and though it works, it does require a USB drive to boot 
and that has its own set of problems.  BitLocker tested on laptops with TPM works well but we haven’t had any out in 
the field yet.

Has anyone implemented EFS and have pros and cons on that?

Am also interested in Symantecs PGP so Jim I’ll ping you on that.

We use Checkpoint  --  but getting rid of it -- not a very good solution.



As such we have reviewed Symantec (PGP) Sophos and a number of others  for FDE, MDE and FFE



Currently doing   (2 months now) POC with Dell and WinMagic(SecureDocs)

We are using Dell Data Protection and Encryption (DDPE), formerly Credant. We selected this product a few years ago 
after evaluating various encryption solutions, some of which are mentioned by others on the list. At the time of our 
evaluation, DDPE was the only product that worked with a wide variety of hardware models from multiple manufacturers 
(typical in our environment), and one of the few that did not require a pre-boot authentication.

Like others have mentioned, you must understand your environment and culture before selecting and deploying your 
product, while none of the products are perfect and each has its own strengths, you have to choose the product that 
best fits in your environment.

We’re on a fast growing campus here at the University of Washington Bothell.  We’re in the initial stages of exploring 
encryption and I was wondering if anyone out there had any thoughts or suggestions on this topic?

So far we’re looking at using BitLocker and maybe EFS.  We’re also looking at Dell’s Data Protection Solution.
