We are going with the SANS Ren-ISAC offering for our poster/flyer/screen saver program next year. $5000 for just the SANS training materials (doesn't include the online courses). If you are interested, the offer ends July 31st, so act fast.
We did a poster and flyer awareness program targeting students about not leaving laptops, phones, GPS, gym bags, etc. in their cars to diminish the high amounts of car burglaries. We handed out simple fliers, University made, to the students the first two weeks of school along the path to their parking area. The students didn't leave a single flyer on the ground (first amazing result). We took one of the fliers and made it into a poster and put it in the general meeting area in the resident halls. One or both of these simple inexpensive tools resulted in a reduction to almost zero in car burglaries (for two consecutive years) based on burglary statistics for the prior 3 years.
I was amazed at the effectiveness of our small homegrown program, and I am very hopeful to see similar results with the SANS materials next year. The SANS materials cover multiple information security concepts, but we plan to start small with one are of focus. Other experts have shared with me that small is better and that it is good to have some kind of before/after metrics to measure success. Like commercials, users will begin ignoring the materials so you need to keep refreshing them to get their attention. It is also very important to have contact information on the materials so users can follow up as needed.
