We've used the "vpnc" client on Linux to connect to the same Cisco ASA VPN that our Windows and Mac users connect to using the official Cisco clients. If you are on Ubuntu you can do an "aptitude search vpnc". You should also get front ends for Gnome and KDE that integrate with NetworkManager for a GUI.
