  That was what I thought of when someone mentioned
front panel switches! Only it was on a 360/50 way
back in '69 when I started. NDSU had gone from an
IBM 1620 to an IBM 360/50 with the help of an NSF
loan about a year earlier. For a while there was
such a gap in processing speed we'd actually shut
down the computer in the evening. ;-)
