We do no general e-mail archival and save backups of e-mail for two weeks. We cannot recover e-mail deleted more than two weeks ago. Our policy is found here: http://policies.memphis.edu/UM1700.htm It was developed by our office of legal counsel "To define standards for preservation of evidence in compliance with federal law regarding litigation holds, as well as to define the procedure for implementing such holds when litigation commences or is anticipated." They are lawyers and I'm not, so I trust them when it comes to compliance issues. -- Harry Flowers Manager, Systems Software Information Technology Division The University of Memphis From: The EDUCAUSE Security Constituent Group Listserv [mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] On Behalf Of Barbara Keim Sent: Thursday, July 16, 2009 9:29 AM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [SECURITY] archiving email We are developing a policy related to archiving college email including how long to store the information in case it is needed in the future for a legal discovery process. Could you please share samples of your policies including how long you are saving emails. Thank you.
