VA SCAN 2008 Conference The fifth annual VA SCAN conference will be held Monday and Tuesday, October 6-7, 2008 at The Inn at Virginia Tech. Visit the beautiful mountains of Western Virginia and attend what has become an annual event for discussing current security issues and sharing ideas on effective IT security practices. WHO should attend? IT managers, IT security professionals, technical staff, and auditors from Higher Education, K-12, Government, and Law Enforcement will find VA SCAN 2008 helpful in their short and long-term plans dealing with technology security issues. WHERE? The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center is located on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The facility (July 2005 opening) provides refined surroundings for conferences and business meetings, while giving you access to state-of-the-art technology. REGISTRATION: The VA SCAN 2008 conference registration is $125; pre-registration is required. Registration deadline is September 29, 2008. In addition to the conference program, the fee includes a Monday evening reception, and lunches and breaks for both days. LODGING: Participants are responsible for making their own lodging reservations. Lodging rooms with special rates are being held at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, and Hawthorn Suites. Keynote speaker: Peter Adler is a partner in a Washington, D.C. law firm, where he is a member of the Privacy, Security and Data Protection practice group. As part of his practice, he assists higher education institutions in establishing and operating effective information security, privacy and IT compliance programs. He has been a frequent speaker at national higher education conferences in recent years. Conference Program: On Monday there will be three concurrent tracks holding presentations: Management track, Technical track, and Audit track. The second day will have sessions in the Management track, while the Technical track will hold two workshops. The Audit Track will not have sessions on the second day.
