That does bring up an interesting question. What about all of those broadband wireless data cards that people may have on their network. I know some faculty/staff have these, and a student computer I just worked with had such a device. This is not as easy to monitor as a physical DSL or Cable drop on the campus, nor as easy as war-dialing to find answering modems on the campus phone lines. Some of the newer cards can be configured to run in 'NIC' mode, so it looks like another Ethernet connection to the laptop. -Justin Justin D. If you are looking to put a policy in against it.. The easy call is security. If you have 3rd party internet space available in the same area as your campus network. It can cause security risks as it is very easy to now have a "back door" into your campus for the whole internet that would bypass any firewall or ips device. A little routing, bridging, or ICS and you are open to the world . Even easier if wireless is in the mix on either end. And it can happen on accident easier with wireless. How do you justify your policy? How do you protect the rest of your network? Thanks, Daniel R.
